Shackleton's' strategy

On Dec 5 1914, Shackleton and 27 others set out on 'The Endurance' to be the first to cross the Antarctic . Unfortunately, their ship was stranded amidst ice and crushed by the pressure. So, Shackleton and his crew set out on lifeboats, undertook a hazardous 800 mile journey to seek help and succeeded. The most unusual thing - nobody died!

    Luck? Absolutely not.

If Shackleton aped hiring practices today, his hiring ad would have emphasized "what" was needed - "Men needed for expedition, 5 years experience.. (blah blah)"

Instead, it focused on the "why" and read "Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months in complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in the case of success."

So, the only people who applied were survivors, ones who loved insurmountable odds like him!

This week, let's hire people who believe what we believe.
